Electro Voice 12trxb

ElectroVoice made some really cool speakers in the 50’s and 60’s and the 12trxb is one of their finest.

This is a triaxial design, meaning there is a dual cone for bass and treble as in a regular fullrange driver, but with an added tweeter mounted in the center of the driver to maintain the full range point source effect. The tweeter used here is almost the same as the tweeter used in vintage Klipsch products. Both were made by EV.

The 12trxb is extremely well built, with a massive frame and lots of attention to detail. It works well on open panels, making nice solid and very natural bass. The soundstage is large and a bit recessed, but the tweeter tends toward forward. These fine old drivers can be a very great bargain in vintage hifi.
